Planned investment to increase Bugarama Plain Rice Production
Rwf 42 billion is planned to rehabilitate and expand the Bugarama plain in Rusizi District. The project aims to increase cultivable land from 1,499 to 2,200 hectares, improving irrigation and overall agricultural productivity.
According to Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), the Bugarama plain is a key economic asset for the region, with each hectare produces over 7,000 tons of rice. The initiative is expected to secure food supply and strengthen livelihoods for local farmers.
The expansion and modernization of the plain will boost rice production, create employment opportunities, and reinforce the district’s role as a major rice -producing area in Rwanda.
