Australia regained World Title in Mixed Relay, Rwanda Ranked 11th

The Australian team edged France by five seconds who took silver medal, while Switzerland secured bronze medal, finishing 18 seconds behind. This marks back-to-back world titles for Australia, who also won the event in Zurich in 2024.

Rwanda shines as Africa’s second-best

Rwanda delivered a spirited performance, finishing 11th out of 15 nations and placing second among African teams, just behind Ethiopia in 10th place.

On the men’s side, Patrick Byukusenge and Eric Nkundabera stopped the clock at 29:20, narrowly behind Uganda and 33 seconds slower than Ethiopia.

In the women’s section, Xaverine Nirere and Claudette Nyirarukundo carried Rwanda’s hopes after Diane Ingabire was slowly rided, ensuring the team completed the event with a respectable finish.

This result builds on Rwanda’s continental breakthrough at the 2024 African Championships in Eldoret, Kenya, where the national team claimed gold in the mixed relay ahead of Eritrea and Ethiopia. That team featured Moise Mugisha, Diane Ingabire, Valentine Nzayisenga, Josiane Mukashema, Vainqueur Masengesho, and Etienne Tuyizere.

The Team Time Trial Mixed Relay was introduced by the UCI in 2019. Each team fields six riders — three men and three women. The men ride first, covering half of the course before handing over to the women. The final result is determined by the second woman to cross the finish line.
