Plastic battles and bags recycling investors still face obstacles.
Some Rwandan investors invest in the recycling of plastic bags, battles, and other plastic materials are facing obstacles and challenges that need to be solved. They say this in case it is contributing to reducing dust everywhere. They announced this when the whole world and Rwanda in particular are worried about these single-use plastics.
Those who have environmental Protection responsibilities were encouraging everyone to take part in preventing the plastic waste that is no longer used because of its harmful effects on the environment.
This is also accompanied by several measures which include the prevention of some of these materials from foreign countries. But that doesn't stop them from being seen those plastic waste all over the streets, and elsewhere.
Habamungu Wenceslas, the founder of a company called Ecoplastic, which collects and produces waste straws, located in Nyarugenge district, Mageragere sector, said that even though the journey is still long when this waste is collected and converted into important materials such as other plastics materials and paves.
"Those can be transformed into a lot of things: such as nursery bags, bags for collecting grass, hay for livestock, materials that are used to hang and cover crops during harvest, and other materials that we call a problem. But our capacity is still low according to the quantity of bags thrown in the environment, but at least there is a step", he said.
These industries, which have opened many people's eyes to what they saw as waste, have started to see them as a source of income, as they said.
One of them said that ‘it would have had no value but today it has become money.’
Despite this, Habamungu Wenceslas said that those who invested in these projects still face obstacles and challenges. That’s why they need attention and support.
"The obstacles are there, the ability to be able to convert all the plastic bags found in the country is not related to their quantity which makes us not to convert all of it. It requires elucidation in terms of regulations and laws".
Currently, around the country, you can find collections of waste from plastic bottles and bags. Recycling is a raw material sent to and processed in a waste recycling plant or materials-recovery facility so it can be used in the production of new materials and products.
In addition, those who collect single-use plastics are paid between Rwf200 and Rwf300 per kilogram.
