Battle Group Commanders begins Key Training in Musanze
The Battle Group Commanders’ Training of Trainers course in Peace Support Operations has begun at the Rwanda Peace Academy in Musanze District. The program aiming to expand the pool of qualified personnel and prepare officers not only to lead but also to teach and mentor others, while strengthening institutional resilience and the professionalism of the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF).
The course, running from 8th to 19th September 2025, brings together senior officers from six EASF member states: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, as well as EASF Headquarters representatives.
Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, Defence Spokesperson of the Rwanda Defence Force, officially opened the course and highlighted its importance in creating a sustainable nucleus of training experts.
“Expanding the pool of qualified personnel is essential in creating a sustainable nucleus of training experts who can cascade their skills and knowledge across all levels of our forces,” he stated.
"By empowering you to become both leaders and educators, we ensure that training excellence is replicated consistently, even in the most remote operational environments," he added.
He reminded the participants that this course is not just about developing their individual skills, but also about strengthening the resilience of the entire institution.
Brig Gen Rwivanga emphasized that they are being prepared not only to lead, but also to teach, mentor, and share the knowledge and experience needed to maintain a strong, professional, and responsive standby force. He encouraged them to approach the training with an open mind, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose.
Mr. Kenneth Goren Albert, Coordinator of the International Advisory and Coordination Staff, praised the facilitators and participants for equipping future trainers with the skills needed to manage complex, population-centric operations at battle group and sector levels.
