Gen Mubarakh: Rwanda Has Transformed From Peacekeeping Beneficiary to Contributor
Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff, Gen MK Mubarakh Muganga, has said Rwanda stands as a nation transformed, three decades after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
“Rwanda today stands as a nation transformed. Thirty years after the Genocide against the Tutsi, we have moved from being a recipient of international peacekeeping support to a contributor to peace and security across the continent and beyond," Gen Mubarakh Muganga stated.
"Rwanda is now a peaceful, stable, and forward-looking country committed to long-term socio-economic development, despite complex regional security challenges,” he added.
He made the remarks on 30 September 2025 while hosting a delegation of 27 faculty and student officers from the Zambia Defence Services Command and Staff College, led by Col Elias Zulu, at RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura.
The study tour, running from 28 September to 4 October, aims to draw lessons from Rwanda’s transformation and its critical role in promoting peace and security in the region and beyond.
After being briefed by the Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, briefed the delegation on the RDF’s transformation and its contribution to continental security, Col Zulu praised RDF for the reception and said the visit deepened their understanding of Rwanda’s remarkable recovery and resilience, particularly after visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
The delegation will also toured the Campaign Against Genocide Museum and will continue engagements with government and defence institutions.
