#UCI25: Megan Arens Wins U19 ITT Gold Medal ( Photos)
Dutch cyclist Megan Arens wins gold medal in the Under-19 Individual Time Trial (ITT) at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali. The event featured 47 riders from 29 countries racing over 18.3 kilometers.
Arens completed the course in 25 minutes and 47 seconds. Spain’s Paula Ostiz took silver medal, while Norway’s Oda Aune Gissinger finished third in 26 minutes and 24 seconds took bronze medal.
Rwandan cyclists Masengesho Yvonne and Uwiringiyimana Liliane represented the host nation but finished outside the top 30. Masengesho placed 33rd with a time of 29 minutes and 43 seconds, nearly four minutes behind Arens, while Uwiringiyimana came 40th in 30 minutes and 58 seconds. Both riders gained experience through the “Rwanda Youth Racing Cup,” a national program started by FERWACY in 2023 to develop young cycling talent.
British favorite Erin Boothman, wearing number one, faced a challenge while climbing a rocky section of the course. She was forced to stop, losing crucial time, and ultimately finished the race in fifth place.
The ITT started at BK Arena and concluded at Kigali Convention Centre, featuring a tough climb along the road from Mediheal up to Muvunnyi. The rocky section posed a significant challenge for many riders.
Rwanda will also compete in the U19 boys’ race with Byusa Pacifique and Ishimwe Brian over 22.6 kilometers. In the U23 category, Jackson Nkuriliyinka, Moïse Ntirenganya, and Kevin Nshutiraguma will carry the nation’s hopes in upcoming races.
The Kigali championships continue to provide a platform for Rwanda to showcase emerging cycling talent on the world stage.
